Here's to hoping Liza wins a well-deserved Tony for Liza's at The Palace.... this Sunday! I've been fortunate enough to see Liza perform numerous times over the past seven years (seven years as of June 1st!), and she keeps getting better and better.  Every performance is an event.  I've learned so much from Liza about art, acting, and life, and this illustration is one way of thanking her for everything she's given me. Thanks to Kevenn T. Smith for helping out with colors.  I could not have done this without his input and expertise.

little edie beale of grey gardens: the libra husband
Libra Husband 11" x 17" Matte Print
Available on RedBubble as a t-shirt! Last year, I was awakened to the documentary film Grey Gardens. I knew there was a Broadway musical, but I had no idea it was based on a true story; that is, until Rosie O'Donnell talked about how brilliant both the documentary and musical were on her blog and on The View. I decided to take a risk and buy the documentary since she insisted the doc was a must-view...I was not disappointed. I found the documentary and relationship between Big and Little Edie to be incredibly fascinating, and was mesmerized by what an interesting person Little Edie was and remains, years after her death. After buying the cast recording of the musical, a trip to New York City to see the show in person was definitely in order. I was lucky enough to see the Tony winning performances of Christine Ebersole and Mary Louise Wilson twice: April and June, 2007. Since then, I've immersed myself in Grey Gardens, and Little Edie inspired this illustration off of one of my old sketches.
