Alice Pearce played Mrs. Gladys Kravitz, the woman who defined Nosy Neighbor, during the first two seasons of Bewitched. She died during production of the second season from ovarian cancer, having been diagnosed before the series began. She was only 48. Sandra Gould assumed the role of Gladys, and redefined her, for the remainder of the series. Sandra's Gladys is the one known for, "Abnah!"

Alice benefited from the quality of the writing during the first two seasons of the show. Her Gladys was given the opportunity to be a full person. The chemistry between Alice and George Tobias, who played her suffering husband, Abner, was perfection.

So, here she is. My favorite Gladys Kravitz, the human goose.

Not the Flying Stupendas

Not the Flying Stupendas is a funny, touching show currently playing at Cleveland Public Theatre. It's created by Jill Levin, with Renee Schilling and the company, and directed by Renee Schilling. This is the final weekend for the show, and they've been selling out!

There happens to be a zoetrope in the show that uses my first animation, ever!

Bless me, Liza, for I have sinned. It's been over three years since I've been to church.

At least the last mass I attended was at the Palace. It was the last concert my grandma attended. A year ago today was the last time I saw my grandma at a place that wasn't the hospital or under hospice care at her house, where she passed away on May 23rd.

So many wonderful memories are connected with Grandma and attending Liza concerts at her side.

The newest entry in my Wonder Woman Cover Series is from one of my favorite episodes: Wonder Woman No. 27: Light-Fingered Lady. Diana Prince goes undercover in her black turtleneck and black pants as a thief named "Larcenous" Lil Thaxton to infiltrate a major burglary ring. The episode first aired January 6, 1978 and is notable for many reasons.

One: Lynda Carter gives an exceptionally good acting performance in three roles. She had a chance to do much more than she usually got to do and played it all extremely well. Second: Diana and Steve Trevor kiss for the one and only time in the series – and it's on the cheek! Suffering Sappho! Third: A rare double-spin into the diving suit happens near the beginning of the episode. Fourth: Wonder Woman uses her Unity with Beasts power when she convinces a couple German Shepherds to do her bidding. Fifth: My favorite supporting cast member, the underutilized Saundra Pearl Sharp as Eve, goes undercover as big-time criminal Marge Douglas. Sixth: Christopher Stone guest stars as Lil's love interest. He apparently made the rounds of our female superheroes since he played Jaime Sommers' boyfriend, Chris Williams, in the third season of The Bionic Woman, which was also in 1978.

At the end of July, as I narrow my focus on what I want to pursue in my performing, I'm traveling to the Celebration Barn Theatre in Maine to study Eccentric Performing with Avner Eisenberg and Julie Goell. This has me thinking a lot about clowns – who is a clown, what makes a clown, what can I learn from clowns of the past (my favorite clowns) – which brought me to someone I've wanted to draw for a long time: Lucille Ball. Who hasn't watched at least one episode of I Love Lucy, The Lucy Show, or Here's Lucy?

This illustration comes from a personal favorite I Love Lucy episode: The Operetta. Lucy plays Camille, The Queen of the Gypsies; a performance I can watch over and over again.
