ArtCares 2011 and The Golden Girls
Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 5:29PM When I was presented with the opportunity to donate an illustration to the AIDS Taskforce of Greater Cleveland's ArtCares 2011 benefit, the first original illustration idea that popped into my head was The Golden Girls. I've been meaning to do a TGG piece for a long time, and what better opportunity to salute the show, which was, I believe, one of the first shows on television to devote an episode to the AIDS crisis (72 Hours).
I wanted to capture the fun of these four women: Blanche Deveraux (Rue McClanahan), Rose Nylund (Betty White), Sophia Petrillo (Estelle Getty), and Dorothy Zbornak (Bea Arthur), as well as present something iconic and memorable. This scene from Henny Penny – Straight, No Chaser was that image.
This illustration, as presented here, was created exclusively for ArtCares and will not be available as a print.
Thank you to my good friend Clint Stanley for being the motivation behind this illustration.

Swans are everywhere! Black, white, good, bad, writing job, bella! Isn't that funny?
This is AWESOME! Course I recognized it instantly. Great work.
Think the Sun on the stage is the best actor here. I like its mimicry!
